Hybrid Hapkido
Kids Curriculum
Kids Awareness, Protection and Defense.
Three ingredients for the real word and victorious results.
letter from a parent
We have all heard of the Federal Amber Alert. More and more we are hearing about child abductions* and assaults upon our schools. With the increased amount of martial arts schools throughout the United States, why is this still happening? The answer is simple. Many instructors continue to teach "their art" instead of teaching practical and common sense techniques and drills that can prove to assist our children in those critical moments.
Of course nothing is 100% effective, but we at Calvary Family Hybrid Hapkido try to make it just that. We cannot guarantee that every child will be safe, but we strive to insure that your child will be.
Yes, we teach martial arts within our kid's curriculum but more importantly we identify the problems most likely faced by a young student and put a plan into action. Children suffer from the lack of self esteem and the lack of confidence. They often daily attempt to deal with fear. Such as the fear of dealing with a bully, or the fear of being teased by classmates, or the fear of daily tests and quizzes. Calvary Family Hybrid Hapkido has implemented strategies and techniques to deal with the many concerns and fears of the child as well as the child's parents.
While other "karate" schools still teach children to punch or kick someone who is attempting to take them away Calvary Family Hybrid Hapkido has acknowledged the truth. If a small child punches or kicks an adult who is trying to take them away, isn't it than likely that the adult would then punch or kick the child? I wonder who would have the most power behind the punch or kick. Sure, there is a place and a time for punching and kicking, but other avenues should first be placed into action. We teach those other avenues as well as when to strike.
We have partnered with people and organizations throughout the United States who make it their living to teach parents, teachers, and all those willing to listen, as to what to do to reduce the possibility of your child being abducted. Along with teaching how to reduce the possibility we also teach realistic techniques to help increase the possibility of a child's escape in an attempted abduction.
We believe that applied knowledge equals power, which is why we have implemented our Kids Curriculum geared towards teaching our children how to heighten their awareness first and protect and defend themselves second. If we are successful in teaching our children how to heighten their awareness and not put ourselves in vulnerable positions then maybe we can stop the abduction before it occurs. Although there is not a 100% full proof way to deter or stop an abduction or bullying, we still strive to arm our children with the necessary tools to assist them in various situations.
Do not be fooled by the old martial arts saying, "Size and strength doesn't matter". If you are a child and a person is a large adult, size and strength does matter, or at least in the mind of that child it matters. So, we have gotten real and teach real techniques for our real precious children.
* NOTE
Recently on NBC I watched a story on Child Abduction. We have all heard the story about the little girl who was taken and
murdered. As I watched this story several people spoke of the many tricks that today's predators are using to take our children.
As I was listening and watching my phone rang. When I answered it, a parent from one of my classes was on the other line.
She asked me if I was watching the program. After answering her, she told me that she could not believe that many of the things that
I teach the children about in class are the exact things that these "professionals" are saying on TV. I guess that is a compliment.
What she was trying to say to me was that the many things that we teach are exactly what these predators are saying and doing.
In constructing Calvary Family Martial Arts' Children's Curriculum, we have put a lot of thought, research, and time into its context. Hearing this tragic story of another young life taken reinforces our dedication to equipping our children with the necessary tools needed to survive in today's world. Our program is an existing one, not one just made up today to address something that has happened yesterday. Calvary Family Martial Arts' is dedicated to being proactive and not reactive as so many other schools seem to be.
For our program to be a successful one, parents must be involved in the learning. Your children are only with me a short time each week. Parents have much more time with your children. Our Children's Hapkido Curriculum is designed with the intent of the parent and child practicing together at home.
Our goal is to keep every child safe. To achieve this goal we must be dedicated towards achieving this goal together. Parents, teachers, educators, and me as your instructor and your child's instructor, will greatly effect the future of our children. We are dedicated to teach, we hope that you and your child are as dedicated and determined to attend and learn.
We also are concerned about the health of our children who are not getting enough exercise in their school curriculum.
USA Today reports "One-third of U.S. kids are out of shape, study finds".
Our programs give children a fun and productive way to get the exercise they are no longer getting at school.
