We gauge our success by the results that each individual person receives. With CFMAF you receive PERSONAL TRAINING at group rates! We heard over a decade ago the disappointment of those who attend “gyms”. They rent the equipment and receive little to no results. With CFMAF you ALWAYS have an instructor/trainer/coach with you AT NO ADDITIONAL COST. This allows for us to help motivate you and modify the exercises and techniques that we use specifically for your body type.
What is different about CFMAF? As a new student said the first day he and his wife arrived “We can feel the difference here. People really care. I can see why you call yourselves a family. All martial arts schools say they teach discipline, concentration, and focus. So how is it that CFMAF stands out so much in our community? That is simple. We stand out in our community because we believe in our community. For many years we have offered our scholarship program to local school districts. The teachers select children who train with us at no cost.
What is the goal of CFMAF? Our primary goal is to equip our family members with the necessary tools in both fitness and “Reality Life Skills” so that they can live a quality life. That means our goal is to meet and exceed your goals.
What is Hybrid Hapkido? Hybrid Hapkido combines the best techniques from many systems and styles while eliminating their perceived weaknesses. Hybrid Hapkido stresses the mental development of discipline, loyalty to oneself, family and country, leadership, focus, manners and strong character development. As well as the physical conditioning required to never be a victim and instead be the victor.
Why choose Hybrid Hapkido? More than a “martial art” Hybrid Hapkido is the “Reality Life Art”. This means that we stress real life techniques for the real world. Although we respect yesterday’s traditions, our focus is to train for today’s reality. You could pay tens of thousands and upwards of a hundred thousand dollars to train in the arts of Hapkido, Taekwondo, Tang Soo Do, Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Boxing, JKD and more. Why choose one of them, when you can have the vital elements of them all through CFMAF!
How is Hybrid Hapkido different from other styles? Hybrid Hapkido teaches various types of strikes (punches, kicks, knees, elbows, pokes, bites, etc), ground grappling, weapons (offensive and defensive), while also teaching realistic escapes and counters to all grabs that you may be faced with in the real world(to include ground fighting escapes). We believe firmly in “If it works use it.” We are not bound or trapped by tradition or “they way it’s been done for years.” This allows for us to stay current with addressing the real threats of today. Our focus is not upon how pretty your techniques are, but instead how effective your techniques are.
What are the expectations for a student? We expect only for you to do your personal best. Each day in school or at our jobs, we will be compared to others around us. Do we run as fast, jump as high, or achieve grades as high as someone else? Is our workload as full as the next employee, do we come in early and leave late? In Hybrid Hapkido we encourage our family members (students) to be THEIR BEST compared to no one else. No one is better at being you than you. With this concept the pressure of being as good as someone else is eliminated and a stress free learning environment is created. We celebrate our differences and acknowledge our faults while constructing a plan to better ourselves.
As a parent, am I welcome to watch my child? You are more than able to watch your child; you are encouraged to participate with your child. We are dedicated to promoting a strong bond between parent and child. How can this be done if we exclude you from this very important step of their growth? Many traditional schools do not allow interaction between a parent and child during the class. We firmly disagree with that concept. We have noticed throughout our many years of training that a student will express great respect toward their instructor, but not necessarily transfer that respect to their parents or an adult in authority. By having the parent on the floor we are able to insure the transfer of respect to the parent.
How does testing and the belt system work? A belt system allows for the student to feel a sense of accomplishment and growth. The children “progress test” each month, with a complete review and graduation done every 4 months or so depending upon their current level. There are set requirements and standards that must be met with each belt level. Adults in our system are involved in one or two different programs; a “beltless belt system” or the belted system. Adults in our “Beltless belt system” learn from a structured curriculum but do not have to rank test (there are limitations within this concept). Adults within our “Belted System” do rank test and seem to operate at higher levels due to their commitment levels in regards to preparation and participation.
All schools we’ve seen place a high emphasis on the Black Belt. Are you the same? NO! We are not a black belt factory. We do not brag about how many people we have promoted to black belt. We don’t guarantee you black belt in X amount of months. We have all heard the stories of black belts being assaulted, beaten up, abducted, etc. in the real world. Why does that happen? Simply because people place too much emphasis upon being GIVEN a belt instead of being EQUIPPED with real concepts and real techniques that can save your life. If your goal is simply to be GIVEN a black belt, we are the wrong school for you.
FITNESS
What makes your gym different? The obvious difference is that we are not a gym. A gym allows for you to pay monthly to rent their equipment. People come into a gym having little knowledge about the equipment and even less knowledge about how to put together a workout program that works. We work with you AT EACH CLASS to teach you, instruct you, and motivate you into true fitness. There is a reason why so many personal trainers seek us out for their own training.
What type of equipment do you use? The most valuable piece of equipment that we use IS YOU. Do not be fooled. It is not the equipment that gets you the results; it is YOU knowing how to use the equipment. The equipment is simply a tool. Through our knowledgeable instructors under the guidance of Certified Personal Trainer, Registered Massage Therapist, Licensed Nutritionist, and Internationally recognized Black Belt Heather Costley, we are able to get you on track and keep there.
What if your classes are too hard? The classes are challenging for everyone. That is why we call them a WORKout instead of a Sleep in . If any exercise we do cause you pain or discomfort simply let the instructor know and we will show you a modification for that exercise.
What type of training do you do? There is always the newest “trend” that people jump on. We’ve all seen the infomercials for P90X, Insanity, 10 minute workout, Cardio Kickboxing, Turbo Kick, Muscle Confusion, HIIT, and the list goes on and on. We don’t follow the newest quick fix, instead we rely upon the time true fact of WORK. You will experience many types of workout with us. This keeps your body in a steady state of flux “confusion” so that you continue to see your gains but you will not see the boredom.
Does age matter? The fact is that as we age we need to train differently. We need to make modifications and adjustments to how we live and what we do. That is simply a scientific fact. Through our concepts known as our Fabulous ‘N’ Forties, Fit ‘N’ Fifties, and Sexy Sixties, we are able to assist you in become more fit and healthy even as you age.
What can we expect from your fitness classes? You can expect a fun and challenging class. Will you receive results? That all depends on one thing…YOU. As in all things in life, you get out of it what you put into it. I know that is not the popular answer. Many people want the quick fix. We want to look great without actually having to work at it. Well for most people that simply doesn’t work that way. Attend regularily, follow the nutritional advice, follow the recovery advice, workout hard, and have fun, then YES you will see the results.
